Sea fishing is a fun and relaxing side activity of Final Fantasy 14, but if you don't know what you are doing, it can be stressful. It's a unique experience to get on a boat with your friends and aim for a big game, but you can only fish in the sea only.

What is sea fishing?

Sea fishing is like an alliance raid. You have to get on a large boat, go to three different seas, and get your goals to get additional points.

Get on the boat with the other two parties and participate in a full party. The goal is to catch fish within the time limit and get a big score.

But it's not just fishing for large and unusual fish. There is a chance to activate the spectrum flow by catching a special "spectral" fish. If you use this spectrum flow, you can catch more fish with higher point values, so it is almost always the goal of activating one of them.

There are also some goals that should be achieved during the mission, such as catching a lot of sharks and jellyfish.

FFXIV] How to unlock sea fishing

To start a sea fishing adventure, you need to unlock a Fisher job. You can unlock to Fisherman's Guild in Limsa Rominsa. It is also necessary to clear the next mission of Fisher, "First fishing rod". Even if the level of Fisher is 1, you can fish in the sea. (In fact, fishing in the sea is a very easy way to grow Fisher very quickly).

When you're ready for Fisher, just clear the rimsa rominsa mission "All the Fish in the Sea":

If you clear this mission, you will be able to line up if you are fishing in the sea via Drydock at the Limsa Rominsa Ferry Wharf (West of Arcanist's Guild Aetheryme).

Ocean Fishing Program

Unfortunately, you can't go ocean fishing whenever you want. Ocean fishing is on a schedule, and you can only sign up for the top 15 minutes of real-world time outside of that time. For example, if the registration opens at 2pm, you can line up for ocean fishing until 2:15pm. If you miss that time, you'll have to wait until 4pm.

I recommend looking for odd or even hours, but the exact time will vary depending on your time zone and time zone, so I really recommend Lulu's tool, which has a live ocean timeline and even notes which targets and schedules the next few boats will be taking.

What bait to use for ocean fishing

There are three main types of bait used in ocean fishing: krill, lugworm, and plumpworm, all of which can be obtained from dockside dealers who are waiting in line for ocean fishing. You will need to buy and stock up on one ton of each of these three.

Every time we went sea fishing, there was always someone in the group who would use the alliance chat (orange chat) to tell us what bait to use -- or who would tell us what bait to use if we asked. But if you don't want to rely on these fishing geniuses every time you board, here are the best lures to trigger the Spectral Current in each location:

• Bloodbrine Sea: Krill
• Seedarth: Ragworm
• Galadion Bay: Plumpworm
• Rhotano Sea: Plumpworm
• Rothrit Strait: Plumpworm
• North Maartol Strait: Ragworm
• South Maartol Strait: Krill
• Seyrenson Sea: Plumpworm
• Kugane Coast: Ragworm
• Ruby Sea: Krill
• River: Krill

In a broad sense, these three lures will cover you. You may use lures other than these three, but these three lures are the best for simple points.

HOW TO HIGH SCORE IN SEA FISHING

BIG scores depend on luck, but there are a few things you can do to improve your score:

• Empty your stash in preparation for your fishing trip. You will be carrying lots of unique fish that eat up a lot of sediment. Do not use the "list list" feature that automatically discards fish, as it will play an animation of discarding the fish, wasting valuable time on board.
• Bring and use cordials or high cordials to recover GP. You have to use your fishing skills, such as patience, strength, and accuracy. You shouldn't just use basic hooking skills.
• Don't forget to use the level 15 skill, Talaik's Grace, which recovers 150GP in exchange for 3 stacks of Angler's Art (a buff you get just by catching big fish).
• Use chum between fish caught in Spectral Stream to make them bite faster.
• Don't stress too much about points when fishing, because there are a ton of bonuses at the end of the fishing run that will boost your score. You'll be surprised at how many bonuses you get at the end.

Just by doing the above, I was able to earn over 10. 000 points (the points I needed to get the mountain and the minion).

Sea Fishing Rewards

Every time you finish a sea fishing run, you'll get Exp Ships and Collector Scrips (at higher levels). Notably, the rewards exclusive to sea fishing are locked behind certain achievements.

The following achievements give you minions and mounts:

• On the Ship IV: Accumulate 1 million units while sea fishing (Very well done Mora minion)
• No more fish in the sea I: At least 5 during a single sea fishing on the Indigo route.
• No more fish in the sea II: At least 10 during a single sea fishing on the Indigo route.
• Fish Near, Far, Everywhere II: At least 10 during a single sea fishing on the Ruby (Mossasaurus minion) route.
• Mine, mine, mine Meet 3 Blue Gulls while sea fishing (Seagull minion)
• Double Somersault: Meet 3 functional pods while sea fishing (Dolphin, Moss, Seagull minion)

These rewards can be claimed from the Achievements menu after earning the corresponding achievement.

Achieving these achievements will earn you titles:

• On board V: Earn a total of 3 million points while fishing in the open sea (World Crust Trawler title)
• No other fish in the sea III: Earn at least 16, 000 points in a single ocean fishing trip (Ocean Fisher title)
• No more fish in the sea IV: Earn at least 20, 000 points in a single ocean fishing trip on the Indigo Route (Ocean Fisher title)
